CMC OR efficiency project
Southeast Anesthesiology Consultants’ physicians at Carolinas Medical Center have spent more than a year participating in an operating room efficiency project with other physicians, hospital administration, nursing, and Deloitte Consulting.
The initial goal of the project was to improve efficiency by getting patients in the room on time which would lead to surgeons starting the operation on time. It was then expanded to include improving the time it takes to turn a room over and get it ready for the next patient’s surgery. Dr. Alan Klochany, Chief of Anesthesiology at CMC has been participating on committees that have helped identity improvements in the process that ultimately lead to a more efficient system for addressing a very large operating room case load.
“Working in conjunction with the hospital to improve efficiencies is vital to everyone’s continued success. With the help of Southeast Anesthesiology we have been able to provide insight into how to creating process improvements which will positively impact efficiencies without sacrificing patient care,” said Klochany.
